Telecommunication is one of the promising sector of our country. No doubt, Bangladesh will mark a milestone in the process of digitization by launching 4G.

4G- a new landmark in a success of Digital Bangladesh is not a dream but reality today. Our Govt. is almost close to fulfilling the promise of moving forward keeping pace with the advanced world.

Science and technology has reached to such an extent that no one has thought ever. Another good news could be the arrival of 4G in our country.

While most of the south Asian countries have already launched 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) service, Bangladesh is all geared to launch 4G service very soon which will improve wireless broadband speeds to meet increasing demand.

Mobile phone operators will be able to launch high-speed 4G data services within December this year after the government auctions the spectrum in November.

The state minister for post and telecommunications Tarana Halim said on 20th September this year;“We are committed to launch the service within December this year.”

The service aims to ensure the fastest data service for mobile phone subscribers. The government will earn revenue of Tk 11 crore from the auction.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has approved the guidelines for spectrum allocation and 4G licensing, said Tarana.

After the service is launched in December, existing mobile phone operators will have 9 months to distribute the network in the divisional towns. However, the new operators will get 16 months in this regard, she added.

Nine more months will be granted for the operators to extend the service to 30 percent internet users of the district level. The third phase of the implementation focuses on the operators providing the 4G network throughout the country within 36 months the launching period.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission will hold the auction in 2100 Mega Hartz (MHz), 1800 MHz and 900 MHz where all the operators are eligible to participate.

At present, mobile operators use 900 MHz and 1800 MHz for 2G services, while 2100 MHz for 3G services. The operators could use the spectrum of different bands for 2G, 3G and 4G or long term evolution services due to technology neutrality.

Three major Bangladeshi telecom operators: Namely Grameen Phone, Robi and Banglalink have already tested 4G in their network with existing partners.

Test reports has shown very fast 4G speed, around 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps from a single cell. Internal employees of the telcos have already been using 4G and helped them to optimize for better results.

With the introduction of technology neutrality spectrum by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the telecom operators have already put the network in place.
