Google's Pixel 2 XL or iPhone X ! A swarming, decision-making dilemma that is almost making gadget freaks and enthusiasts lose sleep. And why will it not. The rivals are no novice and they are going to keep everyone on their toes.

It’s all over the news and social media that Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL and iPhone X are on the verge of releasing and pre-order will be opening soon. While Samsung has always rivaled iPhone in the last few years, Google’s astonishing launching of Pixel 2 with other ranges of devices, definitely gave a little rush to Apple. While the iPhone 8 and 8 plus was just a hardware refresh, iPhone X comes with a completely new package and technology - a step up from the traditional series. Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, also, is not a very refined series in terms of hardware but it claims to have improved from the earlier versions with improved AI and machine learning.

Anyone can now go through the specifications offered by these two mobile OS rivals and here we are going to discuss a few specifications that might help you to decide on which one to go for. For convenience, a comparison between Pixel 2 XL and iphone is gathered below. The size is only the difference in Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

DESIGN

iPhone X is in fact all screen in the front except for a cutout at the top to host the earpiece, front camera and other sensors. The back camera is a vertically oriented dual-lens and unlike any other iPhones in the past, there is no Home button on iPhone X and it uses face recognition to unlock. The device has more glass now and Apple claims it to be the most durable glass in history. The Pixel 2 XL on the other hand has more bezel and it looks more metallic because of the aluminium body, speakers positioned in the top and bottom of the display with no home button similar to its rival. However, Google claims to have the fastest fingerprint scanner embedded at its back and a single-lens camera both in the front and back.

DISPLAY

This seems pretty close. Pixel 2 XL is a 6 inch display with a resolution of 2880x1440 with a pixel density of 538 ppi in contrast to the 5.8 display iPhone X, resolutioning 2435x1125 458 ppi pixel density. Seemingly Pixel’s display is sharper whereas Apple adds a extra perk with its long press allowing 3D touch.

OS

Both are running on the last softwares available. iPhone X on iOS 11 and Pixel 2 XL on Android 8.0 Oreo.

CAMERA

Pixel 2 XL’s rear camera of 12.2MP has optical and image stabilization with an aperture of f/1.8 embedded with dual pixel technology and image recognition that is similar to Apple’s dual-lens, the front camera of 8MP with aperture of f/2.4 facilitating portrait mode. iPhone X has a rear camera of 12MP, with a second one paired. One has an aperture of 1/1.8 and the telephoto lens has f/2.4 aperture and combinedly features optical image stabilization.

PRICE

Google reserves this favor. Pixel 2 XL is coming at 849 USD for a 64GB model whereas iPhone X starts with 999 USD for 64GB model. Not to mention iPhone users are way too much acquainted with Apple’s pricing model.

These basic features just help identify the competition that prospective buyers might need to decide which gadget to pick. All these years Samsung has played a vital role into competing Apple which has been considered feeble. For the very first time Google is up in the market with a series of Pixel products and Apple is up for a dual-release of series 8 and X, both of which is not typical of the release trends. This marks an inevitable challenge of staying up to the buyer’s expectation for both Apple and Google. The staying-on-top-of-tech game is on. Hardware and software refreshing in terms of user experience has always been topped by Apple and customer loyalty to this brand is fierce. Google on the other hand is relatively new to the AI integration in a hardware but is believed to get stable in terms of the knowledge and experience it has in the industry. Only time can reveal the winner. Till then why not play around with the specs!
